A look at Dementia through Functional Medicine

There's a lot of research being done by physicians in the functional medicine field who believe that dementia is a multi-faceted condition related to diet, exercise, sleep, pollution, pesticides in our food, stress, autoimmune responses, gut health, inflammation levels, etc.  This work has been prompted by the lack of effective medication coming out of the many clinical trials that have been undertaken in the recent past and it's certainly worth reading.  Of course, at FoT we're not subscribing to or recommending any particular course of treatment - we're just providing you with "food for thought".

What dementia means in the 21st Century

An article by The Director of Clinical Services, Dementia UK - Paul Edwards, indicates that there is still some confusion between dementia and Alzheimer's. It seems there are some 200 forms of dementia, of which Alzheimer's is the most common.  He refers to the Green Paper, the delivery of which has been delayed again.  This is a Government document that will hopefully introduce ways to narrow the widening gap betwen the separate health and social care systems.  Many folk with dementia have their their complex needs addessed by the healthcare system, when there is a growing body of evidence showing how early interventions through social care and lead to healther, happier and longer live.  Click here if you'd like to read the full article.  They have a Dementia Helpline - 0800 888 6678 or send an email to helpline@dementiauk.org

Additionally, there is a lot more information and news from this amazing organisation.
